Two murder charges over Brisbane shotgun killing, victim’s family hold funeral
By Jocelyn Garcia and Toby Crockford
A second man has been charged over the alleged murder of a man who tried to intervene in an argument outside a Brisbane home and was shot in the chest.
Police were called to a Cliveden Avenue address at Corinda just before 3.30am on Tuesday where the body of 38-year-old Inala man Timothy Van Vo, who was originally from Sydney, was found.
It is alleged he intervened in a confrontation between a group of people and a man at 321 Cliveden Avenue before he was shot at close range with a shotgun.
On Wednesday night, seven vehicles were destroyed by fire at a Gladstone Road unit complex at Dutton Park in Brisbane’s inner south.
Police believe a 2016 Audi A3 – allegedly used in the shooting – was deliberately set alight in the carport area of the complex before the fire spread to six other vehicles.
On Thursday, a 26-year-old man was arrested at a Vermeer Close residence at Mackenzie in Brisbane’s south-east. He was later charged with murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
The accused – Andre Van Mason, from Hatton Vale in the Lockyer Valley region – briefly appeared in Brisbane Arrests Court on Monday.
The unlawful use of a motor vehicle charge is linked to the alleged murder, with Van Mason accused of using a stolen car to carry out the killing.
He could not apply for bail due to the seriousness of the charges. He can only make a bail application to the Supreme Court because he is charged with murder.
His matter was adjourned to Brisbane Magistrates Court on November 2.
It comes after a 30-year-old East Brisbane man was taken into custody on Friday and charged with murder. He appeared in Brisbane Arrests Court on Saturday.
According to a Facebook post at the weekend by Sarah Siobhan – part of Mr Vo’s family – he was farewelled at a funeral service in Oxley on Sunday and cremated at Goodna on Monday.
Investigations are continuing.
