Man allegedly raped and robbed woman in 'serious' DV attacks
By Matt Dennien
A 54-year-old man allegedly assaulted a woman in her Sunshine Coast home before robbing her at knifepoint on a public street in two domestic violence attacks in the span of four days.
Police say the man went to the home near Caloundra about 10am Friday where he physically assaulted the woman over a "prolonged period" in which she was allegedly strangled to the point of unconsciousness, raped and held against her will.
The woman suffered "significant injuries" as a result and reported the alleged attack after she managed to escape, sparking an investigation, police said in a statement Tuesday.
Police arrested the man at a residence near Caloundra on Monday afternoon after the second alleged attack, charging him with 13 "serious" domestic violence related offences.
In that incident, police allege the man followed the woman and her young son along Queen Street at Kings Beach about 8.30am.
After catching up with the pair, the man allegedly assaulted the woman at knifepoint and stole her handbag.
The woman and her son, who were not injured in the ordeal, then sought refuge in a nearby business.
The man has been denied bail and will appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court today charged with two counts each of rape, occasioning bodily harm and strangulation.
He has also been charged with four aggravated breaches of a Domestic Violence Protection Order, along with one count each of deprivation of liberty, threatening violence and stealing.
