Broncos forward accused of dangerous driving as a passenger

By Toby Crockford

A young-gun forward with the Brisbane Broncos will front court on Thursday accused of grabbing the steering wheel of a car he was a passenger in, causing it to swerve across two lanes of traffic.

Teui “TC” Robati, 19, will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle in the inner-Brisbane suburb of Bowen Hills this month.

Police said Robati was a passenger in a Ford Focus travelling along St Pauls Terrace about 9.20pm on Sunday, September 5. The driver was a 19-year-old woman.

It will be alleged Robati “pulled the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to swerve across two lanes” near the intersection with Amelia Street.

The driver regained control of the car and avoided any collision, according to police.

It will be alleged the Ford Focus continued down St Pauls Terrace before stopping suddenly. Police officers intercepted the car a short time later between King Street and Alexandria Street.

The female driver has not been charged, police confirmed.

Robati is a promising second-row forward for the Broncos and featured in 10 NRL games for the club this year, including making his debut against the Melbourne Storm on May 27.

The NRL Integrity Unit is aware of the incident.

The Brisbane Broncos would not comment on the matter.
