By Ben Cubby

A woman was killed by a falling tree branch in Sydney’s south-west on Sunday afternoon, as high winds battered the city and coastal NSW.

The woman, thought to be in her 60s, was struck by the falling branch on Castlereagh Street, immediately west of Liverpool’s central business district, just before 1pm. The street is partly lined with large native trees.

Paramedics treated her at the scene but she could not be revived, police said. She is yet to be formally identified.

Officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command are investigating and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The State Emergency Services responded to 56 calls for help around the state on Sunday, including 41 in Sydney, relating to storm damage such as fallen trees and damaged roofs.
