A man helping his friend move items around her inner-city home allegedly sexually assaulted her after she suffered from a medical condition and blacked out.

Police allege following the incident, which occurred in February 17, Kyaw San Naing, 27, left the woman’s home and did not seek medical attention for her.

Detectives began investigating last month and arrested Mr Naing at a Lakemba home about 7.30am on Monday. He was taken to Campsie Police Station and charged with the aggravated sexual assault of a victim with a cognitive impairment and refused police bail.

NSW Police Detective Inspector David El-Badawi said the pair were friends and Mr Naing was at the woman’s home helping her move items before the assault.

“The victim suffers from a condition which causes... [her] to black out for several minutes at one time,” he said. “After the [alleged] attack, the male left the premises, left the female needing medical attention.”

“The victim woke up alone in the premises and realised something untoward had occurred and after some time [she] reported it to police.

“To take advantage of someone who needs medical attention ... it’s a low act, it is horrific.”

The woman is “still shaken” and undergoing counselling, Detective Inspector El-Badawi added.

Mr Naing’s matter was heard before Blacktown Local Court on Tuesday, where he did not apply for bail and it was formally refused. The matter is due before Downing Centre Local Court on June 16.
