Former NRL and Wallabies star Wendell Sailor has been charged after he allegedly assaulted two men and intimidated another in a Sydney CBD bar.
A NSW Police spokesperson said officers were called to the bar on Erskine Street around 11pm on Wednesday following reports of an alleged assault.
Officers were told Sailor allegedly assaulted two people and intimidated a third, though no injuries were reported.
The 50-year-old ex-Brisbane Bronco was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of common assault, one count of behaving in an offensive manner, one count of intimidating a person with intent to cause them fear of physical harm and one count of remaining in the vicinity of a licenced premises after being excluded.
He was granted conditional bail by police and will face Downing Centre Local Court on November 28.
Earlier on Wednesday, police took out an apprehended domestic violence order to protect a woman from Sailor following an unrelated incident.
The dual international is no stranger to controversy – his high-profile NRL and rugby union career was marred by headlines detailing allegations of public drunkenness, road rage, nightclub altercations and spitting in a woman’s face.
In 2006, a positive drug test for cocaine resulted in his half-million-dollar-a-year rugby contract being torn up, with Sailor suspended from playing for two years.
He returned to the NRL in 2008, playing for the Dragons before retiring in 2009 and focusing on a media career. He landed a regulator commentator spot on Triple M in 2015.
In July this year, he retired from radio announcing he wanted to focus on his children and “grassroots interests”.
