A man has been charged over his alleged role in the murder of Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad, who was shot dead in Sydney’s south-west two months ago.
Police believe the 49-year-old man was involved in the planning of Ahmad’s murder and have charged him with accessory before and after the fact to murder.
The man was first arrested on drug and criminal charges in Campsie on May 2 when police seized more than 25 kilograms of methylamphetamine, worth more than $22 million, from his Wetherill Park home.
Police also seized $200,000 in cash and cloned number plates.
He will remain in custody until he’s next due to appear at Fairfield local court on Wednesday, July 6.
Ahmad was shot dead after he left an associate’s Greenacre home with multiple other people on April 27.
Two dark-coloured luxury cars were found alight in Belmore and Strathfield later that evening.
Police warned Ahmad a week prior to his death that he was in danger and that there was a $1 million underworld bounty for killing him.
Ahmad fled to Lebanon in 2016 when a warrant for his arrest was issued for the murder of Safwan Charbaji at a smash repair business in Condell Park that year.
He was arrested in 2017 when he returned to Australia and, after pleading guilty in 2020 to Charbaji’s manslaughter, was jailed. He was released on parole late last year.
