A man in a black hoodie leaps out from a Porsche in a Bondi Junction car park, gun in hand, before executing crime figure Alen Moradian in new CCTV footage released by police.
The confronting footage of Moradian’s final seconds was released as a young man was charged with helping the hitmen find the high-ranking gangster through sophisticated tracking technology.
NSW Police, on Monday, released footage that shows a man with covered face springing from the luxury car with a gun in hand, pulling the trigger and lowering his hoodie briefly, before jumping back into the Porsche on the morning of June 27.
Moradian, 48, was sitting in a stationary car in the car park of his unit in Spring Street when he was shot. He died before he could be taken to hospital.
In the CCTV footage, two men are later seen leaving a Porsche and getting into a red Holden Cruze. Police found a burnt Porsche nearby in Bondi Junction and a burnt-out Cruze in Zetland.
“Organised crime murders will all, necessarily, involve a number of people and the investigation will be ongoing until all of those people are identified and charged,” acting Superintendent Virginia Gorman said on Monday.
“These two men are first seen in the underground car park carrying a firearm before fleeing the scene and getting into a Holden Cruze on James Street in Bondi Junction,” Gorman said.
As police hunt for the man who pulled the trigger, another man will face court on Monday over his alleged role in the killing.
Just before 6am on Monday, detectives from Task Force Magnus, which was established to investigate gun-related crime and links between organised crime killings, arrested the 22-year-old at a home in Canley Vale in Sydney’s west.
Gorman alleged the man was “a cog in the wheel” who allegedly helped the pair shown in the CCTV find and kill Moradian.
“He facilitated the use of trackers and phones that monitored those trackers, which allowed the offenders to locate and carry out the offence,” Gorman said.
“He was working at the direction of those who have overall commanded the murder.” Gorman said the man was not the main person behind the killing, but allegedly played an essential and important role in the shooting.
“He’s a cog in the wheel … but they all form an essential part of the murder,” Gorman said.
He was taken to Fairfield police station and charged with murder and failing to hand over digital evidence. He will face Fairfield Local Court on Monday.
Two men were charged in October in connection with sourcing the vehicles used in the killing. The pair, 27 and 28, were both charged with murder. They remain before the courts.
Moradian had a taste for luxury, decking out his home in Versace.
“He’s a high-level criminal identity ... he’s a major player in the organised crime network and also has links to the Comanchero OMCG [outlaw motorcycle gang], high level,” Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said in June after the killing.
“He obviously had a big target on his back.”
