By Fergus Hunter and Laura Chung
An alleged carjacker was shot in south-west Sydney and later arrested in the M5 East Tunnel in a dramatic police operation that caused traffic chaos on Wednesday.
The 33-year-old man from Ambarvale allegedly tried to stab a police dog and was tasered following a police pursuit in response to two carjackings.

The major operation unfolded after police spotted a stolen Subaru Impreza in the south-west suburb of Rosemeadow around 10.30am and mounted a pursuit in St Andrews shortly after when the driver allegedly failed to stop.
According to police, the man then repeatedly rammed a police car with his vehicle and threatened customers at a Narellan service station with a machete.
A passenger reportedly fled the scene and was arrested while the 33-year-old man was shot in the leg by police, before fleeing and carjacking another Subaru, injuring the driver. He then allegedly carjacked another vehicle on the Hume Highway at Appin, again assaulting the driver.
With aerial surveillance, police tracked the vehicle to the M5 East tunnel at the Marsh St exit near Arncliffe.
Around 11.15am, officers from the dog unit and other squads approached the man, tasering him. The man allegedly injured a sergeant and police dog during the struggle that followed.
He was taken to St Vincent's Hospital to receive treatment for his bullet wound and dog bites.
The events have been declared a critical incident and will be investigated.
The M5 East was closed citybound between Bexley Road and Marsh Street because of the incident, with heavy traffic in the area. Traffic was diverted via the M8 and Bexley Road.
