It was only last week that it was confirmed that Liverpool City Council’s elections would proceed, after a bitter fight between the council and the state government over a damning report of serious allegations of bullying, inappropriate interference, and more, at the council.
After an eleventh-hour appeal and a flurry of negotiations, the Minns government abandoned a push to defer the vote until after a public inquiry considered the allegations.
The Sydney Morning Herald sent questions to each of the 80 candidates up for election at Liverpool Council about why they are running and what they want to accomplish if they are elected. Of those, eight responded.
Their responses have been lightly edited for clarity.
