A second charge of attempting to drive while under the influence of alcohol was withdrawn.

Baker was this year nominated for a TV Week Logie Award and several other awards for starring in the Netflix hit Boy Swallows Universe.

His TV career began in the early 90s with roles including James Hudson on Home And Away.

He shot to international stardom playing Patrick Jane in the CBS drama series The Mentalist from 2008 to 2015, for which he received a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding lead actor in a drama series nomination.

Baker was born in Tasmania but spent most of his childhood living in the coastal town of Lennox Head in the Northern Rivers region. He attended Ballina High School and Trinity Catholic College and owns a property near Byron Bay.

Baker was released without bail conditions before his first court appearance on Wednesday.

He is due to be sentenced on September 11 at Mullumbimby Local Court.
