Police are investigating whether an alleged failed investment in a business scheme could be the motive for a daytime stabbing of a man in Sydney’s south-west.
In CCTV released by police, a man is standing next to a car on Clifford Street in Panania when a Nissan Navara with green P-plates pulls up beside him on September 23 last year. From the car, three hooded men emerge, armed with a golf club, a knife and a baseball bat.
The vision shows the three men close in on the 34-year-old, chasing him and brandishing their weapons. During the ordeal, the 34-year-old man is stabbed.
The three men run back towards the car and were last seen driving towards Lambert Street. The injured 34-year-old stands up and stumbles away, clutching his head.
Neighbours called emergency services and the man was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital in a critical condition. He received surgery and was later released.
“That emphasises the cowardly nature of this attack, not only did they approach the male in numbers but with various weapons,” Robbery and Serious Crime Squad Detective Acting Superintendent Paul Smith said.
“We’re looking at the number of motives. It certainly was a targeted attack, and there’s a number of lines of inquiry we’re currently looking at closely.”
One of those lines of inquiry includes whether the injured man may have referred the three men to invest in a business run by missing Sydney man Amin Naaman, and his brother Jalal Naaman.
The company, Naamtech Pty Ltd, went into administration in 2019 and its investors may have lost millions of dollars. The Herald does not suggest any wrongdoing on the Naaman brothers’ behalf.
Superintendent Smith urged anyone with information about the September attack to come forward and assist police to bring a resolution to the incident.
“It’s a brazen attack that occurred in daylight hours and this type of behaviour, of violence will not be tolerated,” he said.
Police have released descriptions of the three men involved in September’s attack whom they believe can assist with their inquiries.
One of the men is believed to be between 20 and 30 years old, of medium build and with dark facial hair. He was wearing a black hooded jumper, black pants, a black cap with black and white sports shoes and light-coloured gloves.
The other man was about 180 to 185 centimetres tall and of medium build, and was wearing a black hooded jumper, black pants and gloves.
The third man is also believed to be about 180 to 185 centimetres tall, of medium to large build and was wearing a blue hooded jumper with black pants.
