A 14-year-old boy has been given an official caution after a student, 15, was stabbed at a high school in Melbourne’s north.

Officers responded to reports of the stabbing at Reservoir High School about 10.50am on Tuesday.

The 15-year-old boy with non-threatening upper body injuries was treated by paramedics and taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition.

Police arrested the 14-year-old but in a statement on Tuesday night said he had been released with an official caution.

Reservoir High School declined to comment, but a spokesperson confirmed the school was still open on Tuesday. The co-ed public school has about 700 pupils.

Speaking to 3AW on Tuesday afternoon, a father of a student at the school said the victim was stabbed in the neck.

“My son in year 10 just told me that a year 9 stabbed a year 10 with a knife from one of their trade subjects,” the father, Frank, said.

He added: “In the last two weeks, there’s been about three or four fights, this is constant.”

A spokesman for the Department of Education said while the school took “appropriate action in response to the incident”, it would be inappropriate to comment further.

The department said it was supporting affected staff and students at the school.
