Five children have been arrested and charged after a stabbing outside a western Sydney school that police said came as the result of a “fight over a girl”.
Police were called to the scene outside LaSalle Catholic College in Bankstown about 3.15pm on Wednesday and found three teenage boys, all aged 15, with injuries.
One had stab wounds to his upper back, while another had been stabbed in the thigh. The third boy had bruising injuries to his face.
All were treated at the scene by paramedics and one boy was taken to Westmead Hospital. He has since been discharged.
Following an investigation, five teenagers aged 15 and 16 were arrested and charged with reckless wounding in company and affray. They were refused bail by police and will face a children’s court on Thursday.
Bankstown Police Commander Superintendent Adam Johnson said police were looking for five more boys involved in the brawl.
A number of people fled before police arrived.
Johnson said a number of people had recorded the altercation on mobile phones which police have now obtained.
He said the footage had made it easy for police to identify the individuals, but called on those involved to hand themselves in immediately.
“We already know who some are. My message is, if you’re watching this, come to Bankstown police station and hand yourself in,” he said at a press conference on Thursday morning.
Johnson said the brawl allegedly involved boys from the area and involved an argument over a girl.
“It’s just a silly situation of young people making some very bad decisions,” he said. “It could have been a lot more serious and someone could have been killed. It’s only a matter of luck.”
