Australia’s Sam Kerr will face Barcelona in the final of the Women’s Champions League after helping her Chelsea side overcome Bayern Munich in a thrilling semi-final.
Chelsea overturned a 2-1 first-leg deficit with a 4-1 victory at Kingsmeadow Stadium in London on Sunday (Monday AEST) but the game was more dramatic than the scoreline suggests. The hosts were 2-1 up with six minutes remaining and the game looked destined for extra time, but a Pernille Harder header then gave the Blues a slim advantage on aggregate.

Bayern surged forward in search of a late goal but left themselves exposed at the back. Fran Kirby sealed the victory with a fourth for Chelsea in injury time, making it 5-3 on aggregate.
Earlier, Kirby opened the scoring, and the teams then traded first-half goals. Sarah Zadrazil netted for the visitors and Ji So-yun for Chelsea. It’s the first time the English club has reached the final.
In the other semi, Barcelona beat Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 for a 3-2 aggregate win. It means the Women’s Champions League will have a first-time winner when the final is played in Gothenburg on May 16.
Last week, Kerr told the Sunday Age and Sun-Herald her ambitions this year, with the Champions League title among the targets.
“I want to win the European Champions League, the [English] league playing the full season - last year it was cut short with COVID - and with the national team I have plenty I want to do,” Kerr told
“We haven’t won much to be honest, so I want to win an Asian Cup, I would love to medal at a World Cup or Olympics.”
