Police have confirmed a white station wagon seized from a home on the NSW north coast will be examined as part of the investigation into the disappearance of toddler William Tyrrell.
An older model Toyota was taken from a home at Wauchope on September 16 and continues to be examined, police told Fairfax Media on Saturday.
The car is believed to belong to Anthony "Tony" Jones, 59, who was sentenced on Friday to three years in jail after he was convicted of the aggravated indecent assault of a young child.
A picture taken from across the street showed the vehicle, which matches the description of a car police say was seen on the morning William disappeared, being loaded onto a tow truck.
Jones was a member of Grandparents As Parents Again, a group investigated by police for links to paedophiles as part of the William Tyrrell investigation.
In early September, police made an appeal on television program 60 Minutes for the drivers of two cars - which were parked on Benaroon Drive, Kendall, on the morning William disappeared - to come forward.
They were noticed by William's mother since they were unusually parked on the street, rather than in one of the long driveways, with the drivers' side windows down.
"We've got the general description of the vehicles, one's a white station wagon, the other is an older-style greyish sedan," Detective Inspector Gary Jubelin told 60 Minutes.
"What makes us suspicious of these particular vehicles is they weren't parked in a driveway, they were parked between driveways. There's no logical reason why they would park in the way they were," he said.
"We are not suggesting any of these vehicles are linked to William's disappearance but we want to eliminate those cars from our inquiries."
A spokesman for NSW Police confirmed the car had been taken away and was still being examined.
"Earlier this month, detectives from Strike Force Rosann seized a white Toyota station wagon from a property a Wauchope," the spokesman said.
"The vehicle is undergoing forensic examination as part of the investigation into missing toddler William Tyrrell."
The toddler's disappearance was referred to the Coroner earlier this month but police maintain the investigation is ongoing and they have not lost hope William is still alive.
