The home
A two-bedroom apartment with a balcony in Melbourne’s inner east. Built in 1941, it features curved windows, high ceilings and a rooftop terrace.
Who lives here
Company director Peter Frith.
What I did
“Over eight months, Penelope Scott Interiors helped me to renew this tired ex-rental with fresh paint, wallpaper, carpet and a new bathroom and laundry,” says Frith.
Favourite room
“I love it all. I was attracted by the high ceilings, large windows and an unusual floor plan, and particularly enjoy the play between the art, the wallpaper and the elegance of the original features.”
The ’hood
“The Botanic Gardens, a bookshop, restaurants and a cinema are all just around the corner,” says Frith.
Future plans
“To share the space and my collection of art and objects with family and friends,” says Frith. “I love the provenance of many of the items. A few were made by friends and family and others were previously owned by one, two and three generations of family.”
Best advice
“Discuss the details,” says Frith. “As most walls here are not on 90-degree angles and many wall and ceiling interfaces are curved, where to finish paint and wallpaper lines required consideration.”
