The house
Built 25 years ago, this two-storey home sits on a huge battleaxe site surrounded by bushland. The owners were drawn to “its quiet, secluded aspect”.
Who lives here
The Burke family – architect and project manager David, ad industry executive Adele, and their 11-year-old twins, Reuben and Sienna.
What we did
“In addition to reconfiguring rooms and adding space, we wanted to inject elegance,” says Adele. “Working with design studio Bone Made, we achieved this through high-quality finishes, such as natural stone in the kitchen and bathrooms, hardwood floors in the hallway and master bedroom, and wainscotting throughout.”
Favourite room
“We transformed the front living from an unusable space to our favourite room,” says David. “We did this by installing arches, glass doors and a fireplace. An adjacent bar area linking to the kitchen makes the space ideal for entertaining.”
The ’hood
“The house is situated in a private cul-de-sac in Frenchs Forest,” says Adele. “With many young families as neighbours, and being near numerous parks and beaches, it’s ideal for raising our twins.”
Future plans
“Our next project will be a makeover of the garden and pool areas,” says David.
