Everything you need to know about Taylor Swift’s Super Bowl appearance
By Nell Geraets
There were two types of fans following this year’s Super Bowl: those who love watching NFL, and those who love to watch the NFL’s newest (and most high profile) cheerleader, Taylor Swift.
The pop sensation has been dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce for about 16 months, becoming a signature element of the Chiefs’ support crew and a lucrative opportunity for the NFL.
At last year’s Super Bowl, the camera panned to Swift 11 times, news outlets investigated the designer clothing she wore and her beer-chugging was transformed into a viral meme.
This year proved much the same. Swift was again a focal point, as Swifties keenly followed what she wore, who she was with and whether an important question was to be popped (looking at you, Travis).
Taylor Swift’s Super Bowl outfit
Swift kept it casual this year, wearing a white double-breasted Saint Laurent blazer, white tank top, sparkling denim shorts and thigh-high white boots. What really caught viewers’ attention, however, was her ruby “T” necklace.
Swifties quickly recognised the bespoke jewellery as the same chain she wore around her thigh at the Grammys last week, by jewellery designer Lorraine Schwartz. This triggered online speculation around the meaning of the “T” pendant, with many convinced it stands for Travis, Taylor or specific song lyrics.
Last year, Swift attracted similar attention down under after wearing a $650 crochet corset designed by Australian designer Dion Lee, who has since exited the Australian fashion scene.
Boos and bad blood
Not everyone was happy to see Swift at the Super Bowl. When the singer featured on the jumbotron screen, a chorus of boos rang through Caesars Superdome. Luckily, Swift took it on the chin, giving the camera a subtle side-eye before laughing it off.
And who needs NFL fan approval when you have Serena Williams on your side? The champion tennis star took to X, writing: “I love you @taylorswift13. Don’t listen to those boos!!!”
It’s nice to have a friend
Swift sat beside rapper Ice Spice for a second time, after watching the game together last year.
All three members of Haim, the band Swift collaborated with on No Body, No Crime, also joined, along with celebrity stylist Ashley Avignone.
Notably, actor Blake Lively was not part of Swift’s crew this year. Lively is currently embroiled in legal disputes against Justin Baldoni, the director and co-star of film It Ends With Us.
What about Travis Kelce?
It was the question on everyone’s mind – other than who would win the game. Would Kelce propose to Swift after the game?
But by the time it became clear the Eagles were going to claim victory over the Chiefs, the possibility of a proposal all but disappeared.
No one wants to whip out a ring shortly after being demolished on the field.
