Having worked with stylist and writer Megan Morton for more than 20 years, I have to admit her endless and varied ensembles, always highly accessorised, are the subject of some fascination. “I’m interested in the mash-up of contrasts. I’m always looking for a way to pair unnatural things together but in a harmonious and thoughtful way,” she says of her eclectic style. “I do this with colour, with clothes from different eras, with texture and tones, to create a new feeling when they are placed together.”
Morton loves “maxi anything”, especially long skirts that add to her rather regal bearing, and she knows how to play to her best assets, which include her hands. “I’m all about taking the eye to my extremities, so I’m always looking for cocktail ring action and suites of bangles.”
All this requires wrangling into some sort of storage system, otherwise, one suspects, it would become a dysfunctional dress-up box. “There are two types of clothes, and I section mine accordingly,” she says. “Clothes to move in, and clothes to pose in.”
For sartorial sanity she’s turned to customised wardrobing, which one usually associates with the type of person who has outfits in quiet shades of grey. There’s now a home for everything, from vintage kimonos to those outfit-defining accessories. “My bangle storage is a key priority," she says. “Order equals creativity – for me they go hand in hand.”
