John Kennerley, husband of Kerri-Anne Kennerley, in an induced coma after fall
By Andrew Hornery
John Kennerley, the husband of television personality Kerri-Anne Kennerley, is in an induced coma at Royal North Shore Hospital's Intensive Care Unit and will undergo delicate surgery tonight after falling over a garden hedge at a golf resort near Coffs Harbour on Sunday.
The popular television personality's manager Sean Anderson described the situation as "very serious" on Monday afternoon as showbiz circles were rocked by the news of the accident.
Mr Kennerley was posing for photos with his wife at the Bonville Golf Resort following the annual Ladies Masters Tournament in which his wife has been a regular participant for many years.
"He stepped back to lean against a hedge which they thought was against a fence but there wasn't one and he has gone over and landed very hard on his head ... I don't want to go into the specifics but it is very, very serious.
Mr Kennerley was rushed to Coffs Harbour hospital on Sunday and placed in an induced coma in preparation to be airlifted to Sydney. Ms Kennerley flew from Coffs Harbour to Sydney on the first flight out of the north coast city on Monday morning and has been by her husband's side ever since.
Ms Kennerley's sister has also joined them.
Mr Kennerley has sustained a serious neck injury however specific details have not been forthcoming.
The couple, who have been firm favourites on the celebrity circuit since their glitzy wedding in 1984 at the Sydney Opera House, have been virtually inseparable ever since. Indeed, their 30-year plus marriage is one of the showbiz world's most admired.
Guests to their Woollahra home have long celebrated the couple's social stamina. John would treat visitors to guided tours of his elaborate model railways which steam through their home as his wife cranked up their stereo.
While John was previously married and has adult children, the couple share their home with their beloved pet golden retriever, Digger.
