ASUVI
With biodegradable refills, ASUVI natural deodorant is a whiff of fresh air. Aussie-owned and made, this natural range is free of aluminium and animal products and features sophisticated scents. For those with allergies, there are versions free of fragrance and bicarb soda. The outer tube is made from recycled plastic and can be refilled or recycled again; the cardboard refills will fully biodegrade over time.

For those launching a beauty product today, environmental impact is as important a consideration as efficacy. New Zealander Emma Lewisham believes in collaboration over competition, and openly shares the intellectual property for her carbon-positive range. All products in her science-led, natural skincare range are refillable and recyclable, with refill vessels having a carbon footprint up to 74 per cent smaller than the original packaging.

Hermès
Beautiful, functional and finely crafted, the Rouge Hermès Object (aka lipstick case) is also refillable. Available in a range of playful colour combos, the case is made from lacquered, brushed and polished metal, and hand-assembled using the maison’s trademark craftsmanship. The initial purchase includes a lip colour; refills are compatible across all Rouge Hermès Objects.

L’Occitane
Offering refillable products since 2008, global skincare brand L’Occitane reduced its use of plastic materials by 124 tonnes – about the weight of your average blue whale – in 2018 alone. By purchasing an eco-refill (currently available for 26 skin and hair products) plastic use is reduced by up to 90 per cent. Empty bottles can be returned to selected stores for recycling and a 10 per cent discount on a like-for-like purchase.
