Andrew Bolt demands answers from 'rude' anti-Islam church protester Nick Folkes

Conservative commentator Andrew Bolt has branded the leader of an anti-Islam protest "extremely rude" and demanded an explanation for why he and a group of others donned Arabic-style dress and walked into a Gosford church on Sunday, interrupting its service.

Nick Folkes, the leader and spokesman for the Party For Freedom, appeared in a tense interview on The Bolt Report on Sky News on Monday night to talk about the stunt at Gosford Anglican Church where the group placed prayer mats on the ground and used a loudspeaker to shout slogans.

At the beginning of the interview, which was abruptly cut short when Folkes' microphone was silenced, the broadcaster asked: "Please explain to me why you were so damn rude."

Folkes responded: "I don't think it was that rude, Andrew, I think that the point needed to be made. It was disruptive for some people ... there's always going to be people that do take offence."

Bolt retorted: "Of course they do. You meant them to take offence."

As Folkes began to talk about Father Rod Bower, the leader of the church, Bolt cut in with "no, no, no".

"Nick, Nick, let me tell you how this works," Bolt said.

"For years I have complained that the left, the ABC, whenever you've got a left wing protester doing something antisocial, disrupting someone, scaring them, they would get someone on to spruik their cause. I'm not going to reward you like that. I'm just going to talk, only, about your choice of tactics.

"Do you think it's appropriate to go into someone's church service while they're praying, while they're worshipping God, and stage a stunt like that?"

Folkes said the protesters had placed people inside the church, who were conveying messages to the group waiting outside to make sure they didn't interrupt communion.

However, as he began to stray into "the problem ... with the modern church", Bolt interrupted once more.

"No, no, I'm not going to let you do it," Bolt said.

"When you do something that I consider wrong, offensive, trampling on peoples' rights, you don't get to spruik your cause.

"I want you to defend what it is you've done, which I think is extremely rude. To older parishioners, that would be intimidating, and you know it."

Folkes attempted to defend himself, before he and Bolt talked over each other for about 20 seconds and the broadcaster threatened to cut his guest's microphone off.

"If you mention your cause again, you're off," Bolt said, accusing Folkes of giving ammunition to left wing media outlets and embarrassing Pauline Hanson.

"Do you realise the damage you do?" Bolt asked.

"You've discredited your cause, you've embarrassed yourself, you've scared people, and mate, the interview now is over," Bolt said, gesturing with his hand as Folkes' microphone was cut off. "Goodbye."

Folkes also appeared on Channel Ten's The Project on Monday night.
