Another day, another episode of How to be a great bloke, with Dave Grohl. This time, the much-loved Foo Fighters' frontman has single-handedly made it cool for men to cry and hug each other in public.
In front of 18,000 fans, at Fiddlers Green Amphitheatre in Colorado, Grohl spotted a blubbing and possibly intoxicated male fan, Anthony, two verses into My Hero. Grohl teased the man briefly but obviously touched by the fan's Public Display of Emotion, he invited him on stage and dedicated the rest of the song to him.
"Don't cry motherf---er! Are you crying right now? I love you man. Look at you, holy sh--!" Grohl said, grinning broadly.
"You know what, f--- that speech I was going to make, I'm going to sing this to you, right now.
"I want some real tears, you've got to sing it with me. Don't make me cry! I'm gonna sing this to your crying grown-man ass."
On stage Grohl gave Anthony a long, warm hug - to thousands of cheers - then gave up his chair (remember Grohl suffered a broken ankle on stage recently) then sang the song to Anthony, who was so smitten he had to look away from his hero at one point.
Anthony wobbled off stage eventually but not before he snuck a peck on the cheek of his hero.
Anthony's heroics were even recorded for posterity on the website setlist.fm, which listed My Hero as performed "acoustic, with Crying Drunk Anthony".
