David Wenham reveals what he stole from the movie set of 300

By Broede Carmody

Australian actor David Wenham has revealed he stole his leather underpants from the set of the 2006 Hollywood blockbuster 300.

Speaking to Nova's Fitzy and Wippa, the Lord of the Rings star let slip that when filming wrapped-up he departed Canada with more than just abs.

"I took the leather underpants from the first movie," he said. "Then when they made a second film... [they] said, would you come over and do a cameo?

"It was literally one little scene. I thought, gee, I better go back because I bet they'll ask me – you know – if I've got my leather underpants. So I took them back and silly me left them in Bulgaria. So I don't have them anymore."

The seasoned performer, who played Faramir in both The Two Towers and The Return of the King, said he originally kept the revealing costume because after training and dieting for weeks on end he thought he deserved something to remember the experience. For example, after the morning training session the cast of 300 were permitted just five almonds in order to maintain their shredded physiques.

After all, when he wrapped his scenes for The Lord of the Rings films a few years earlier, director Peter Jackson presented him with Faramir's sword as a parting gift.

Now, Wenham is more focused on the fact he will never be able to sell his 300 costume to raise some extra cash.

"After Rusty's [Russell Crowe's] auction the other day, I was kicking myself," he said. "Stupid me left them in the dressing room."

Fellow Australian actor Russell Crowe recently auctioned off a large portion of his belongings, including a leather jockstrap from the 2005 film Cinderella Man. The piece of clothing sold for $7000.
