PS: Wedding bells ring for banking boss Anna Bligh

By Andrew Hornery

Almost a year since PS first predicted wedding bells, former Queensland premier turned banking cheer leader Anna Bligh is set to tie the knot today with her beau Anthony Bertini.

PS understands the ceremony will be a low-key affair for family and friends overlooking Balmoral.

Anna Bligh and Anthony Bertini are due to wed in a low-key ceremony at Balmoral on Saturday.

Two years ago this column revealed the couple were dating, and around a year ago they began telling friends they intended to take their relationship to the next level, with Bertini keen to put a ring on it.

Bligh's previous marriage to former senior public servant Greg Withers, which produced two sons, came to an end some time ago.

The last few years have been tumultuous for Bligh. She left her post as Queensland's first female premier, suffering a crushing defeat in the polls, then relocated from Brisbane to Sydney. Just months later, she found herself fighting cancer.

In 2014, Bligh was appointed chief executive officer of the YWCA NSW, which billed itself as "a movement of women working for social and economic change around the world".

In February she was appointed CEO of the Australian Banker's Association, with her top priority improving the public image of Australia's banks.

Last year Bligh shared some of her more challenging life experiences with the audience at the 2016 Emerging Leaders Series in Sydney, telling the room that aspiring leaders must "accept chaos" in their lives.

"I think balance is the wrong word as it implies harmony – and that's not been my experience ... I think juggling is a good word, that's what it felt like, trying to keep all the balls in the air. I think it is important to acknowledge the life of a leader is not a normal life ... If you are going to be a leader you are going to live a life that is not always normal."
