Roxy Jacenko goes thrift shopping, drops $32,000 on second-hand bag
By Lucy Manly
Not everything is as it seems in the world of social media. Just last week publicity maven and serial entrepreneur Roxy Jacenko shared her latest designer purchase, the ultra-exclusive, limited edition Hermès Bleu de Prusse ‘Endless Road’ 50 Birkin handbag.
The rare accessory features a Californian landscape and retails for a whopping $52,000.
However, within hours of the bag being shared on Instagram, Emerald City noticed that the very same arm candy had been passed in at Shapiro Auctioneers at their Fine Jewellery and Luxury Design. It is understood that Jacenko is the mystery buyer, and she scored the bag for no more than $32,000.
In addition to Hermès, the mum-of-two also boasts a range of designer bags from the likes of Chanel, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Dior, and Fendi estimated to be worth upwards of $1 million.
“It’s like artwork for me; it’s a sense of achievement,” she said of her bag collection in her TV special I Am...Roxy.
Like any serious collector of designer goods, Jacenko no longer stores her leather valuables at her Vaucluse mansion. Emerald City understands her prized handbag collection is now kept in a temperature-controlled vault in Sydney’s CBD.
In recent years Roxy’s bag collection may have grown, but she has offloaded much of her designer wardrobe via Instagram and secondhand site Vestire, trading it in for a casual uniform consisting of a white T-shirt, black leggings and Asics trainers.
In fact, Roxy refuses to dine anywhere that won’t give her a table while she’s wearing activewear.
Sydney’s wealthy set is no stranger to buying second-hand. Roxy’s former protégé Francesca Packer Barham, eldest grandchild of the late Kerry Packer, was the mystery bidder at the very same auction house back in 2020, dropping a whopping $575,000 on a 17.34 carat emerald-cut diamond ring.
Jacenko did not respond to Emerald City’s request for comment.
Norris Nuts search for eastern suburbs home with reality TV help
It was only a matter of time before social media sensations the Norris Nuts outgrew their hometown Newcastle.
Since starting their YouTube channel in 2014, the family of eight have become local celebrities thanks to their wholesome family-friendly content on social media platforms, amassing millions of followers across the globe.
The Norris Nuts comprise former Olympic swimmer Justin Norris, his wife Brooke and children, Sabre, 17, Sockie (Cerrus), 15, Biggy (Coda) 13, Naz, 11, Disco, 3, and Charm, 2.
Now the Norrises are looking to crack Sydney’s eastern suburbs’ high-end housing market to find their dream home with the expertise of Luxe Listings buyers agent Simon Cohen.
Cohen said he was unable to comment when contacted by Emerald City, but the reality TV property mogul appeared on a YouTube video taking the Norris family through homes across the eastern suburbs.
While the Norris Nuts may not be well-known in mainstream media, they have a legion of fans – or “legends” – who watch their YouTube videos and buy their merchandise, amassing 6.4 million subscribers to their video content and have an estimated net worth of $28 million.
According to reports, the family is believed to earn upwards of $10,000 per day ($3.7 million a year) from the ads that appear on their videos, not bad for an empire made from over-exposing their personal lives.
However, eastern suburbs tween fans had better not hold their breath if they’re hoping to see the likes of Sabre, Sockie, Biggie, or Naz turn up in their classrooms. The Norris children have previously shared that they’re all homeschooled.
Allianz stadium hosts star-studded opening
The highly anticipated Allianz Stadium is set for its grand unveiling at Sunday’s community event set to light up the harbour city.
Some of Australia’s top and former sporting heroes will rub shoulders alongside politicians and celebrities and socialites at the sold-out event.
It is tipped to be a visual spectacular, with dancers, light shows, large-scale projections, and pyrotechnics. And it wouldn’t be a major Australian showcase without a performance by former Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian. There will also be a performance by rapper Baker Boy.
Emerald City can reveal sporting glamour couple Tara Rushton and Cooper Cronk will lead to the celebrity pack of guests celebrating the city’s $830 million stadium, while former professional rugby league and rugby union player Sonny Bill Williams, retired Canberra Raiders great Laurie Daley, former boxer Anthony Mundine, as well as Rugby Sevens star Charlotte Caslick and NRLW Roosters’ Jess Sergis will all be in attendance.
NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet and wife Helen have hopefully secured a babysitter to mind their brood of seven, while the jury is still out on whether Chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission Peter V’Landys will turn out for the stadium he has long criticised.
