In a statement her mother, Priscilla Presley, said, “It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us.”

“She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time, there will be no further comment.”

Just hours before the announcement Presley had been in a critical condition with a temporary pacemaker after paramedics were able to regain a pulse, following a call to her home earlier on Friday (AEDT).

According to TMZ, Presley’s ex-husband Danny Keough performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

The celebrity news site reported that a representative for Priscilla said the family were devastated and shocked.

“Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time,” the representative said.

Presley was the owner and chairman of the board for the Elvis Presley Trust and its business entity, Elvis Presley Enterprises until February 2005, when she sold a major interest in the company. However, she was the sole owner of Graceland Mansion, the 13.8-acre estate of Elvis Presley in Memphis, Tennessee.

Presley’s tragic death comes just two days after she attended the Golden Globe Awards, where actor Austin Butler won best actor in a drama motion picture for his portrayal of her father Elvis in Baz Luhrmann’s film of the same name.

In an emotional acceptance speech, Butler acknowledged the Presley family for their support during the filming of Elvis.

“I also want to thank our incredible producers, and Warner Brothers, and Presley family. Thank you guys, thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me,” Butler said.

“Lisa Marie, Priscilla, I love you forever.”

Ahead of the Golden Globe Awards Presley told Extra that she was blown away by Butler’s performance and his ability to embody her father’s mannerisms and voice.

“I adore him [Butler]. I was mind-blown, truly, I actually had to take five days to process it because it was so spot-on and authentic,” Presley said.

Lisa Marie Presley was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and had released three albums, with her debut album To Whom It May Concern reaching number five on the Billboard 200 albums chart in 2003.

She was the mother of four children, including actress Riley Keough who was in the 2015 hit Mad Max: Fury Road, directed by Australian George Miller.

Presley was also the former wife of Michael Jackson and Academy Award-winning actor Nicolas Cage.
