Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness finalise divorce

By Kerrie O'Brien

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have officially divorced, after nearly three decades of marriage, with court records showing the case was finalised this week.

People magazine reported overnight that online court records from New York’s Suffolk County Supreme Court show that a judgment of divorce was filed on June 12. The case status is now listed as “Disposed”.

Furness, 69, filed for divorce from Jackman, 56, on May 27, with the filing showing terms of the divorce were uncontested and would only need a sign-off from a judge.

The pair initially announced their separation in September 2023 after a relationship spanning 27 years,  beginning when they met while starring in the 1990s ABC drama Correlli.

In the statement, they said their “journey now is shifting” and they had “decided to separate to pursue our individual growth”.

While Jackman has made no public comment since, Furness issued an emotional public statement in May amid rumours of Jackman’s involvement with fellow actor Sutton Foster, with whom he starred in The Music Man on Broadway in 2022.

Neither has commented publicly about the rumours of their relationship, but the pair has been photographed in public holding hands and kissing over the past six months.

“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” Furness said in a statement in May, when she spoke publicly for the first time.

She described the split as “a profound wound that cuts deep”.

“However, I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us,” Furness went on to say. “This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage.”

“I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose,” her statement continued.

“It is so easy to get lost in looking for love and validation outside ourselves, but that’s not where it lives – it lives within. Sometimes the universe has to create arduous circumstances for us to walk through in order to find our way home, back to our true essence and the sovereignty of self-love.”

Furness went on to say she has found “liberation and freedom” post-split and is “grateful” for her life path.

Jackman did not respond to the statement, but a few hours after it was widely reported posted a video to Instagram in which he is seen skipping along to the NSYNC track Bye Bye Bye, which also featured in his 2024 film Deadpool & Wolverine.

After their first meeting in 1995, the couple married on April 11, 1996. They adopted their son, Oscar, 24, in 2000, and their daughter, Ava, 19, in 2005.

At the time Jackman and Foster worked together on The Music Man, he was married to Furness, while Foster was married to screenwriter Ted Griffin; Foster filed for divorce in October last year.
