Is the NT Australia's drunkest state?

BOOZEY ISSUE
The Northern Territory has been outed as the state with the highest average alcohol and nicotine consumption.
Data from the latest Australian wastewater report also revealed the Territory had the second highest average capital city excretion of MDA, the parent drug of Ecstasy.
The April 2021 collection covered around 56 percent of Australia’s population with two testing sites in the NT — Darwin and one regional area.
DRUGS OF CHOICE
Compared to December 2020, the average consumption of alcohol, nicotine and the drug ice had increased in both the NT's capital and regional site.
The report found that across the nation,  fentanyl and oxycodone consumption had decreased, and heroin and cocaine were also on the decline.
DEADLY SPIKE
But in the NT, more oxycodone and fentanyl was consumed while heroin use had increased at the regional site.
Sydney is Australia’s cocaine capital.
OTHER FINDINGS...
Australia ranks 7th in the world for ecstasy and cannabis abuse.
Melbourne has the highest heroin use.
South Australia has the highest use of meth.
Sewerage tells law enforcement a lot about Australia's drug habits, including patterns, spikes and trends in drug use nationally.
MURKY ISSUE
The report by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission is used to inform public health and policing decisions, said ACIC boss Michael Phelan.
“The data continues to demonstrate the challenges facing different cities and towns and also unique characteristics of local drug markets, forming a meaningful part of bespoke solutions for each region."
