Drugs, weapons, cash: the outlaw bikie gangs you've never heard of

BIKIES INC.

BY CHARLES MIRANDA

The criminal scope and influence of Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs is growing in Australia.

News Corp’s new eight-part Bikies Inc podcast takes an in-depth look at how OMCGs have evolved from hired muscle to billion-dollar players in the illicit drug scene.

There are 38 OMCGs with 475 chapters in Australia. These consist of 4718 patched members, 951 prospects (probationary or nominee members) and 4585 associates.

The size of the gangs vary, with one quarter having 25 or fewer members but with more than half having a chapter in multiple states and territories. Here are 10 you may not have heard of...

Established in Western Australia and considered one of the “big four” clubs in the state alongside Coffin Cheaters, Gypsy Jokers and Club Deroes.

God's Garbage

Formed in Detroit in 1954, the Highwaymen have mottos about how they fear no-one and are a rival of fellow OMCG the Outlaws.

Highwaymen

Allegedly founded in the 1970s by ex-Fourth Reich MC members. Described as a volatile group with a penchant for weapon stockpiles; strong in Queensland and Victoria.

Black Uhlans

A feeder club for the Hells Angels. The Red Devils started in the late 1990s in Belgium before spreading internationally, including Australia.

Red Devils

Founded in Perth in 1971 before joining forces with a Victorian-based club using the name in 1999. The Coffin Cheaters also have two Norway clubs under their brand.

Coffin Cheaters

The Outcasts have become a public supporter of the four big clubs, including Hells Angels. They are still small and have a low profile.

Outcasts

Formed in Tasmania in 1970, members deny they are part of an "organised crime group". In a submission to police, they said they don't identify as ‘one per centers’.

Devil's Henchmen

Established in 1960, the Gladiators are one of the oldest clubs founded in Australia. They were born out of the motorcycle speedway scene in Maitland, NSW.

Gladiators

The club made headlines in 1997 when six people were shot after 85 Outlaws and Odin’s Warriors members clashed in Mackay.

Odin's Warriors

Despite club denials, authorities have previously accused them of being a “puppet club” for the Hells Angels. Not to be confused with the Viking Group of licensed clubs.
