Alice Springs Town Council urged to act on pokies 
A community group has called on Alice Springs Town Council to “protect residents” following the NT government’s approval of new pokies in town.
Pokie numbers at two Alice Springs venues will double after an application for 10 new machines each at Todd Tavern and the Gap View Hotel were approved by the NT's Director of Gaming Machines.But community group No New Pokies in Mparntwe is against the move, believing the new machines are "hazards" to the population.A survey of 837 Alice Springs residents by the group earlier this year found 98.9 per cent did not support new pokies in the town.
