SEVERAL males broke into and “ransacked” an Alice Springs home late on Monday while five family members were asleep inside.
The owner of the property, who did not want to be named, said just before midnight on Monday, his five tenants were asleep when two or three young men broke into the house.
He said CCTV footage showed the offenders cutting through flywire, prising open a closed window and forcing the window shutter action to allow the smallest of them to enter the house and unlock the back door to let the others in.

“The thieves ransacked the place very quietly and they took electronics, cash and alcohol – anything that could be carried in a shopping bag,” he said.
“All this happened while the family was asleep.”
The homeowner said the CCTV footage showed the offenders had covered their faces during the incident.
The man said the family had been so shaken by the incident they wanted to leave town.
“It wasn’t until someone in the house woke up about 3am that they realised they had been burgled when they saw the cut flywire and the back door was left open,” he said.
“The family are from overseas and they are now absolutely terrified that their home has been violated.
“They want to leave town because they no longer feel safe, but our international borders remain closed.”

The man said he had been shocked at the “brazen nature” of the incident.
“They knew exactly what they were doing and how to get away with it. They even looked up at the camera which was in infra-red mode,” he said.
NT Police confirmed they are investigating the incident, but have not yet charged anyone.
