A WOMAN has been slapped with a criminal conviction after throwing a glass at someone’s head following a fight that started over “the forced feeding of spicy chicken wings.”

Kassandra Corrie, 30, appeared in the Darwin Local Court last week and pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.

The court heard Corrie was drinking at a venue in Palmerston in late August last year when a “physical altercation” broke out between her and the eventual victim.

Corrie’s lawyer, Lachlan Cowley, revealed to the court the fight started because of “a silly situation over the forced feeding of spicy chicken wings.”

“They got well out of hand. It ended up with Miss Corrie being restrained by her wrists and then by a hand around her head,” Mr Cowley said.

“It is clear that no matter how the interaction started, it ended up as something less than pleasant for my client.”

Corrie’s then-boyfriend Samuel Lenz intervened in the alleged forced feeding by punching the victim in the face and was pulled away by security.

Lenz was found not guilty of aggravated assault by way of defence of another last week.

Mr Cowley said his client became “agitated and upset” as she “tried to provide the security guards with her version of events.”

“I understand security was not overly receptive to this argument and as a result Miss Corrie was getting increasingly angry and frustrated.”

“It was at this time that my client did an incredibly stupid thing,” Mr Cowley said.

“She took her drink with the original idea of throwing the contents in the victim’s face but this ultimately did not happen.

“She threw the glass hitting the wall behind the defendant.”

The court heard the victim suffered a “burning sensation” when some of the drink made it into his eyes.

Prosecutor Simon Lipert described the incident as “a serious assault which has arisen over a dispute over the spiciness of chicken wings”.

“Nothing in the agreed facts makes mention about alleged manhandling,” Mr Lipert said.

He cited the importance of the rights of patrons to go to a pub and eat “spicy or not spicy chicken wings free of inhibition” and “free of being assaulted.”

Judge Elisabeth Armitage sentenced Corrie to a 12-month good behaviour bond and ordered her to pay a $150 victims’ levy.
