THREE men have suffered minor injuries after a large group of youths pelted them with rocks and sticks in the Alice Springs CBD last night.

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Shaun Furniss said about 9.45pm, three men aged 21-23 had been walking back to their car at the Hartley St carpark when they were approached by a group of 10-15 male youths, who asked them for cigarettes.

“One youth stole a tobacco pouch from one of the men, and when the man tried to get it back, they were set upon by youths throwing sticks and rocks at them,” he said.

“People should be able to walk around the streets and not be approached or assaulted by others.”
