A drunk motorcyclist who called police for a lift home after crashing his bike in Darwin CBD has potentially landed himself in hot water.

A DRUNK motorcyclist who called police for a lift home after crashing his bike in Darwin CBD has potentially landed himself in hot water.

The rider registered an roadside alcohol reading more than four times over the legal limit.

The crash, which knocked him unconscious for several minutes, was captured on CCTV.

Acting Senior Sergeant Andrew Caruna said at 3am CCTV operators witnessed a motor bike accident at the intersection of McMinn and Bennett streets.

“The male rider has mounted the kerb which caused him to lose control and slide across Bennett Steet with his helmet being dislodged before he came to rest in the middle of the road,” he said.

“The male was seen to be unresponsive for four minutes before he got up and tried

unsuccessfully to restart his bike.

“The rider then phoned police requesting a lift home not knowing the incident had been witnessed by CCTV operators.

“When police arrived on scene he was submitted to a road side breath test which recorded a positive result for alcohol.

“As a result of the crash the rider sustained significant grazing to his arms and legs and was taken to RDH by St John (Ambulance). The rider was lucky he didn’t receive more significant injures.”

NT Police confirmed the man returned a roadside reading of 0.205.

Police investigations into the crash continue.
