TWO men have been slapped with fines in separate breaches of COVID-19 precautions

TWO men have separately been slapped with fines from Northern Territory Police after failing to comply with quarantine requirements.

One man had absconded from the confines of his accommodation while the other repeatedly failed to wear a mask at the Howard Springs Quarantine Facility, despite being instructed multiple times to do so.

The penalty for such offences is a whopping $5056 per individual or $25,280 for businesses.

NT Police also revealed they’ve now handed out 152 fines since the coronavirus pandemic began and conducted 32,955 compliance checks.

A 30-year-old man, who arrived on Friday 16 October from regional Victoria for “essential work,” was found to not be present at his accommodation on Monday, despite being required to quarantine under a COVID-19 safety management plan.

Despite testing negative for a second time, NT Police said he would be required to quarantine for another 14 days.

“While the region the man came from is deemed low-risk, failure to adhere to his COVID-19 plan is considered a serious breach,” an NT Police statement said.

The second man, aged 18, was also hit with an infringement notice after failing to wear a mask.

NT Police said he had received numerous previous cautions.
