A YOUNG child has drowned in a public pool in the remote Red Centre community of Kintore, about 530km west of Alice Springs.
According to NT Police, local workers in the community found the child unresponsive in a public pool in a remote community west of Alice Springs on Thursday.
The exact age of the child is unknown at this time.
Attempts to resuscitate the child were unsuccessful.
Detectives are travelling to the community to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The remote Indigenous community of Kintore is known locally as Walungurru and has a population of about 400 people.
It is part of the MacDonnell Regional Council and as well as a public swimming pool, has a clinic, school, art centre, police station and shopping centre.
