A TOP End woman recovering from cancer and grieving the death of her partner has been dealt another heartbreaking blow — her car stripped and destroyed in the middle of the night.

Parap resident Sandra Neave had her vehicle at her apartment block’s carpark for the last few months, unable to drive because cancer treatments rendered her arms unusable.

Two weeks ago she noticed the driver’s side window had been pushed down alongside smaller damages, but this week found her car completely trashed.

Rim covers were ripped off, with some wheels stuffed under the car as jacks. Parts underneath the bonnet were stripped, the bumper tossed on the path, the interior of several doors torn off, among more devastating damage.

Ms Neave, along with having to deal with the destruction, is also mourning the loss of her partner, Robert, who passed away days before.

“It’s just one thing after another,” Ms Neave said, staring at her car in disbelief.

“I spent a lot of money (on treatment) so the car had to wait, and I couldn’t use my arms at that time … I was saving to actually get a couple of new tyres, and it’s taken me longer than usual.

“To see this, after having enough money, and then having to spend it for the funeral, this was just heartbreaking.”

Ms Neave, who was born in the Territory and has lived here on and off, said crime was likely to continue.

“I think it’s going to get worse, especially with these young ones,” she said.
