A TEENAGER accused of violently attacking a 92-year-old man as he sat inside his car at the Freds Pass Markets will spend at least another week in Don Dale.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named, was charged with aggravated assault and faced the Youth Justice Court on Friday after the incident last weekend.

His lawyer, Nicola MacCarron, said she had planned to apply for bail on his behalf but asked for an adjournment after a visit to the detention centre by supported accommodation provider Saltbush.

“I understand Saltbush just needs some further time to assess supports for (him) before either accepting him or making a final ruling on whether he can go there,” she said.

Tumbling Waters resident Harvey Wade suffered substantial injuries when he was allegedly set upon by the boy in the market car park last Saturday.

His daughter, Karen McEwin, told the NT News Mr Wade was left with a broken nose and a face full of bruises after the incident but was “on the mend”.

The teenager is due to return to court on February 15.
