A man will face charges after a backpack allegedly containing uncapped used syringes was found in a car next to a child.

A MAN will face charges relating to drug offences after a backpack allegedly containing uncapped used syringes was found in the back seat of a car next to a two-year-old.
At 10.30pm on Saturday, Katherine police pulled over a vehicle for a random breath test.
NT Police Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Sonia Kennon said the driver was found to be disqualified from driving or holding a license for eight months in February.

She said the man returned a negative result for alcohol but due to his demeanour and the smell of cannabis from the vehicle, police searched the car and found a backpack allegedly containing items used in the administration of amphetamine, including uncapped needles which were next to a toddler in the back of the vehicle.

“The driver was arrested and provided a positive result for amphetamine and methamphetamine and will be charged with traffic and drug offences,” she said.
Sen Sgt Kennon said the passenger exhibited obvious physical signs of methamphetamine use and will be summonsed to court for drug related offences.
