Speaking on the Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association radio, Lisa Watson described how she and her partner, along with two young children, were shot at by three men in a car.

She said they left the pub and began heading towards Borroloola when a car began high beaming them.

“We thought maybe they just wanted to get in front of us to drive faster so my partner Sean slowed down to let them through but they ended up getting in front of us and slamming the brakes on so we had to slam the brakes,” Ms Watson said on CAAMA radio.

The family’s ordeal continued from there as the men in the vehicle continued to follow them.

“Three men jumped out of the car and ran up to our car and my partner was going to talk to them but I just knew something was wrong so I told him to drive.

“We just drove and they ended up chasing us for 15 minutes or so and after a while they started firing shots at the car and they ended up getting in front of us and we seen them hanging the gun out the window on the passenger side.

“My partner slammed the brakes and he turned around and we drove back the other way and heading back the other way we pulled into the mine site and stayed there until the police came.

“I was on the phone to the police the whole time it was happening.”

She said the workers at the mine site assisted and locked the gate until police arrived.

She said no one was physically hurt but everyone was shaken up by the incident.

“We didn’t think anything bad was going to happen to us that day,” Ms Watson said.

“We didn’t know the people, none of us have any enemies, we felt like it was just a random attack.
