Senior Crown prosecutor sworn in as NT’s newest Local Court judge

ONE of Darwin’s most experienced Crown prosecutors has swapped the bar table for the bench after being sworn in as the Territory’s newest Local Court judge last week.
Long term Territorian Stephen Geary took up the position on Tuesday after almost two decades with the office of the NT Director of Public Prosecutions.
Mr Geary started with the DPP in 2001 before being promoted to senior Crown prosecutor in 2010.
He has degrees in Arts and Law from the University of Tasmania and worked for the Tasmanian Legal Aid Commission before moving to the Territory in 2000 to take up a role with the then Katherine Regional Aboriginal Legal Aid Service.
Mr Geary has participated in over 100 jury trials and has visited numerous Aboriginal communities across all regions of the NT.
