A MAN who became trapped in mangroves while trying to retrieve a boat has been rescued by police

A MAN who became trapped in mangroves at a Darwin creek in the early hours of this morning has been rescued by police.

The man was part of a group that walked out to the sandbank near Buffalo Creek boat ramp to retrieve a stuck boat about 1.45am.

But the group was caught by an incoming tide and the man was swept away to the other side of a creek.

He climbed up a mangrove tree for safety and became stuck there.

Water Police officers who attended the scene found and rescued the man, who was uninjured.
