Police investigate cause of ‘4-storey’ fire that started in car park beneath units in Larrakeyah

Police are investigating the cause of a fire that erupted in a car park beneath a unit complex in the Darwin suburb of Larrakeyah.

POLICE are investigating the cause of a fire that erupted in a car park beneath a unit complex in the Darwin suburb of Larrakeyah.

The blaze, which started around 3.15am in Mekur Court, reportedly reached the height of a four-storey building and caused explosions.

Police said everyone escaped without injury, after firefighters arrived within three minutes of reports and rescued residents who were trapped in their units.

After extinguishing the blaze, police and fire investigators secured the scene and have commenced investigations into the cause of the fire.

Police said they would like to thanks those occupants and witness for taking quick action in reporting the fire and providing clear advice to ensure the safety of occupants and those in surrounding buildings.
