POLICE gave out 67 traffic infringements over the weekend as some coronavirus restrictions were lifted and Territorians went in search of the great outdoors.

Despite this, cops largely commended Territorians for their good behaviour following the easing of restrictions on Friday.

Sixty-five of the 67 infringements given out were speeding related, while the other two were for driving an unregistered car.

A total of 115 compliance checks were conducted by police across the Territory, along with an increase in high visibility police patrols and community engagements within national parks and public spaces.

NT Police Incident Controller Acting Commander Shaun Gill said the safety of Territorians on the road continued to be a priority for police.

“The restrictions may have eased, but now more than ever you must maintain physical distancing and the actions which have so far prevented the spread of COVID-19 across the NT,” he said.

“It’s been the diligent and hard work of Territorians that has given us the opportunity to enjoy this weekend, now is not the time to become complacent.”
