FORMER NT top cop Peter Bravos will today face the first day of what is expected to be a month-long historic rape trial.

Bravos, 53, is the former NT Police Assistant Commissioner and stands charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent against one alleged victim relating to an alleged incident in 2004.

He has pleaded not guilty.

A judge from interstate has been flown in to preside over the trial after a number of NT Supreme Court Justices recused themselves as they had a personal or professional relationship with one of the trial’s key witnesses.

Following an application from Bravos’s lawyer John Lawrence SC, the NT Independent Commissioner Against Corruption (ICAC) was ordered to reveal the identity of a whistleblower to Bravos’s legal team.

The whistleblower made a report about Bravos in 2015 to the then public interest disclosures commissioner, which has since been replaced by the ICAC.
