PROSECUTORS have laid a string of fresh charges against fugitive rogue sports scientist Steven Dank, while withdrawing others even as he remains on the run.

The case against Dank was mentioned in the Darwin Local Court in his absence on Wednesday where prosecutor David Dalrymple told the court he would be withdrawing a total of 16 counts of recklessly endangering serious harm.

But Mr Dalrymple said another 16 counts of obtaining benefit by deception would now be added to the charge sheet.

In June, the NT News revealed NT Police were preparing to extradite the disgraced sports scientist from Victoria following his repeated failures to show up at court in Darwin.

The one-time mastermind of the Essendon Football Club’s notorious peptide scandal had been on the run since October last year when the Local Court issued a warrant for his arrest.

At the time, an NT Police spokesman confirmed investigators were in the process of having Dank forcibly compelled to face the music.

“NT Police are preparing an application for extradition for the consideration of the Director of Public Prosecutions,” the spokesman said.
