A HOMEOWNER in Alice Springs was surprised to find an intruder in his home enjoying a meal of roast lamb at his kitchen table overnight.
Southern Watch Commander Adrian Kidney said police were called to two separate residential break-ins within a matter of hours in Alice Springs on Monday night.
One of the incidents involved an intruder that gained entry into a home in Gillen through the rear window at about 1am.
“They were interrupted by the owner who came out and found the offender in the kitchen eating roast lamb,” Crd Kidney said.
“The owner chased the offender out the house through a back door and down the street however was unable to catch him.”
Cdr Kidney said police also responded to a report of intruders on at a private residence in Braitling at about 10pm.
“The offenders have attempted to jemmie the front door open however were unable to do so," he said.
“They then proceeded to smash a kitchen window and enter the premises which activated the alarm system.
“The offender has then exited the premises through the window and decamped the area.”
Crime scene forensics are expected to attend the home and obtain forensics from the broken glass and prints left behind in an attempt to identify the offenders.
