Nine rescued by water police after two boats break down over the weekend off the coast of Darwin

NT Water Police made two rescues over the weekend after two vessels reported being in distress off the coast of Darwin.

WATER Police have rescued six people on-board a boat near Golden Sands beach after they received reports the group was in distress on Sunday afternoon.

The group were located north of Mandorah Jetty near Golden Sands, where the boat had broken down as a result of mechanical failure.

Police launched a rescue boat and recovered the vessel, towing it to the Darwin Ski Club boat ramp.

This followed a similar rescue by water Police on Saturday afternoon where another vessel with three people on board had broken down off Charles Point.

Police crews attended and safety towed the vessel back to Dinah beach.

Police reminded users of the water to check they have all necessary safety equipment and ensure their vessels are maintained and serviced regularly to prevent a day out on the water resulting in lots of stress for all involved.
